The Sisters – Claire Douglas

One lied. One died.

When one sister dies, the other must go to desperate lengths to survive. Haunted by her twin sister’s death, Abi is making a fresh start in Bath. But when she meets twins Bea and Ben, she is quickly drawn into their privileged and unsettling circle.

When one sister lies, she must protect her secret at all costs. As Abi tries to keep up with the demands of her fickle friends, strange things start to happen – precious letters go missing and threatening messages are left in her room. Is this the work of the beautiful and capricious Bea? Or is Abi willing to go to any lengths to get attention? When the truth outs, will either sister survive?

A few words for this book, fucking mental, like oh my god. I had so many mind changes through this, like one minute I liked Beatrice and then I hated her and the same with Ben. From the start I thought Beatrice and Ben was a little fucked up and it only proved it when the “secret” is later revealed in the book. And when it is finally revealed it makes a lot of bleeping sense. Like from the start you can see this isn’t normal, fair enough being close to your twin but not that close.

I really did like Abi’s character, the blame she felt for the death of her sister felt so real, which i loved about her. It was nice that her friends and family was worried about her living on her own, but they weren’t protective to the point of stalking around the town or something. And even after her break down she didn’t always believe she was crazy when she thought Beatrice was tricking her and making her seem crazy.

Now Ben is a suck mother flipper, doing that to Abi like made me really mad, taking stuff that her dead twin sister gave her and then making sure Beatrice got the blame. Through the story Ben’s character slowly unravels but you don’t realise just how messed up he is until Nia makes Abi go and find this Morag and then Ben’s brother tells them the story that he knew. We see Ben’s anger when he attacks Beatrice and then she still goes back to him which i think in itself is just bloody bonkers, but of course she loves him. I can only see how that relationship will go, who will be dead in the end? oh wait she will <– That was my one annoyance about this book the fact she went back to him after he basically kicked the shit out of her.

With my up and down likeness of Beatrice i think my favourite part of her character is when she is at Abi’s parent’s house and is telling her the full story of everything that happened. That moment was my favourite one in the entire book, just listening to them both figure out what Ben had done to them, and that Beatrice really was just concerned about her and not trying to split her and Ben up it was a nice moment.
