The Young Elites – Marie Lu

I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.

Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.

Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.

Wow why did I wait so long to read this book?! Honestly, I am kicking myself I waited so long! I loved loved loved this book! I am hooked on the series already!

I loved Marie Lu’s writing this is my first book of hers I’ve read and it was fantastic, I found it so easy to read and it just carried me along for the story. Also, there’s a map at the beginning of the book I love a good map, it so helps understand it all better. The world building was amazing, I absolutely loved the world building in this as well as the whole world as a general and the magic that the elites possess, it is just all built so well!

I loved loved Adelina like she was so dodgy it was fabulous, I love characters like this, they feel more real and dense and I love that. I thought she had a great backstory and how the history of her powers was revealed to the audience. I just thought she was a really brilliant character!

I fell in love with Enzo I mean he was a real dickhead but I still liked him and I knew from the moment I began reading it, that something was going to happen with that. I was right, I’m not going to say because spoilers, but from the moment I was like don’t get attached you know how these go you’re going to get heartbroken. So when the thing finally came I wasn’t as hurt by it.

I also loved Raffaele, he was such a great character! The King & Queen were so corrupt it was ridiculous! Every time they appeared I was just like I wish someone would kill them already!

It was such a great first book in the trilogy and I can’t wait to read the 2nd book when I finally get to it! I loved the writing and I just loved the characters!
