Dorothy Must Die – Danielle Paige

I didn’t ask for any of this.
I didn’t ask to be some kind of Hero.

But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado – taking you with it – you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. But I never expected Oz to look like this. A place where Good Witches can’t be trusted and Wicked Witches just might be the good guys. A place where even the yellow brick road is crumbling.

What happened? Dorothy.

My name is Amy Gumm – and I’m the other girl from Kansas. I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked, and I’ve been given a mission:

REMOVE
THE TIN WOODMAN’S HEART.

STEAL
THE SCARECROW’S BRAIN.

TAKE
THE LION’S COURAGE

AND THEN
DOROTHY MUST DIE.

Doesn’t that sound fantastic I am very new to Danielle Paige and her work this is the second book of hers I read an ARC of Stealing Snow and that was the first time I had read her work. This book did not disappoint I have heard so many good things about this series and all the hype is true.

One thing for this story you don’t even need to know any real history of The Wizard of Oz, I have never read it or watched the movie I just knew the basic story and it did not hinder me in any way in fact I kind of preferred it this way. Danielle Paige does such a brilliant job of setting up a dystopian version of Oz and it was perfect I could imagine it and the world building was amazing. I mention the world building because sometimes in Stealing Snow I struggled with that so I’m glad to see Danielle Paige cane be good about that!

The plot erm this is like nothing I have ever read, I demolished this book in like 2 and a half hours I just didn’t want to let it go it was amazing and I was turning every page and didn’t want to stop I am sad I do not have the sequels I may invest in them who am I kidding I will borrow them.

The characters so many different ones! I loved them Amy really did make me laugh she is sarcastic and it was funny and she used it as a defence mechanism sometimes and who could blame her with how her life is at the start of the book and yet we still see her scared to be in Oz and afraid to turn out like Dorothy I found that so humble and that she didn’t want anything to do that would make her even remotely like her in other words she struggled to accept the use of magic.

Nox, I fell in love with him straight away he was such a funny character like the relationship between him and Amy it took a lot of warming up to but something about Nox I liked instantly who knew he kind of had a tragic story, either way, I loved his dynamic as a character and the fact he was willing to make sacrifices making sure Dorothy did not rule over Oz.

The witches erm I half liked them like they helped Amy when she needed it but I didn’t really have an opinion on them, just the wicked ones come together to get rid of Dorothy because although they are deemed evil in different stories she is more. They are super powerful too which I really like and although they did all hate each other they could work together.

Ozma I feel like this character is very important she is meant to be the ruler of Oz but we are told that Dorothy did something to her. We don’t know much about this character but I’m mentioning her for one reason is the fact she looks like she is going to become a massive part in the sequel The Wicked Will Rise, so although we have no opinions on her as of yet. I’m really curious to see what will happen with her character!

As you can see I fell in love with this book I don’t have a criticism yet that could change as I go on with the series.
