The Yesterdays of Tomorrow – Jessica Hernandez

So this is the final book in the Hawk of Stone Duology by Jessica Hernandez I have already done a review of the first book Capering On Glass Bridges so check that out if you haven’t already. This will be non-spoilery!

It’s been a year since Kaia’s first encounter with the turned ones. Every day since then has been fraught with uncertainty. Most in the Kingdom of Mar prepare for a life wherein they will be free. Kaia, however, knows that even if the curse should be lifted, the Marian people will not be unburdened in the near future. King Sol promised them a war with Darlbent, and a war they shall have if the fog dissipates. Swords have already been thrust into the hands of every man in the kingdom, filling Kaia and her friends with trepidation. Things have changed in Mar, and Kaia worries that it is only a matter of time before some blades are turned against them.

The moment of truth is approaching. Soon, it will be known whether or not the curse was meant to have an end. If it wasn’t, can Kaia and the others learn to make lives for themselves in a forsaken land like Mar? Will they ever truly know safety there?

To further complicate matters, Kaia has Ruelena to contend with…

Oh my god this book it was brilliant it was an amazing ending to the duology and I am so thankful that Jessica contacted me to read this book otherwise I would have never known about it which is sad! So as I say non-spoiler review so I am going to try and do it without spoilers!

The character growth was so immediate in this book you could so tell that a year has passed since the first book but only by how much the characters had grown other than that it felt like no time could have passed but it was just amazing how different these characters was and yet so recognisable.

In the first review, I mentioned that I was glad that Kaia wasn’t driven by romance and it was nice to see a book without romance, this one had a little one and I totally guessed that it would be Warrin I was like yes I’m right! Oh, my god, I loved their relationship like it was perfect so cute and lovely but it wasn’t overpowering the plot line which I thought it was perfect. Jessica managed to balance both and did it wonderfully.

There are scenes in this book where we get to see Kaia figure out Ruelena I really liked those scenes they added so much to the story and it was nice seeing that part of her life and that she managed to reconnect with that family even if there were some losses.

Erm I had a feeling in the first book that we couldn’t trust Sol and I was right he turned into just being a mean King who just wanted war and wasn’t bothered about who he killed getting this war and how he died (I feel like that isn’t spoiler totally obvious) it was like perfect justice.

The Sibling banter! Oh my god I loved it, still they had it and they still teased each other and I loved it, just there whole relationship (*Hint* Jessica story about the brothers? Just Kidding.. Sorta) Anyway they were so fun to read and it just made me fall in love with those characters than I already had.

There’s something that happens a certain character is believed to be dead, can I just say I totally guessed that he wasn’t like it didn’t feel like a closed death if that makes sense, I had a feeling he would still be alive and he was. So yes for guessing that right.

The ending, I loved it, I don’t want to give anything away for your guys because honestly, it will spoil you for everything let’s just say it’s very interesting and it left me sad but also like what happened it didn’t happen for no reason. (Hahaha, I laugh you guys trying to figure that cryptic message out. If you read it YOU WILL KNOW) I loved the ending it was not a perfect ending that I would have liked happily ever after and all that but it was still a brilliant ending.
